Aerial Scissor Lift Specs
A scissor lift, or scissor man lift, is an aerial platform that lifts vertically to elevate workers and materials. Scissor lifts get their name from the way they extend, with a lifting mechanism made up of crisscross supports that hinge open like the blades of a pair of scissors.
Scissor lifts can drive back and forth horizontally but they only extend vertically. Some models can only lift one person at a time, while others are more spacious. Some even have a platform extension that slides out from the main deck to provide additional space.
Lift Height
The lift height of a scissor man lift typically ranges from 20 to 40 feet. The tallest aerial scissor lifts can reach as high as 60 feet.
These lift heights are more than adequate enough for residential projects and indoor tasks. If, however, you need a higher reach for tasks like outdoor construction or building, boom lifts are a better option. Boom lifts can extend farther and higher than scissor lifts.
Load Capacity
The load capacity of an aerial scissor lift depends on the type of equipment and the model. A typical slab scissor lift has a load capacity of 500 to 1,200 pounds, while the load capacity of their rough terrain counterparts is between 800 and 1,500 pounds.
On the other hand, a narrow-aisle or single-man scissor lift can only lift between 300 and 500 pounds. Consider the weight of your typical load and how many people will need to utilize the machine at once. Follow the weight guidelines found on the equipment’s load capacity chart for safe operation.
